Daly Wilson Big Band / The Exciting
Label. Festival
Disc. VG
Cover. N/A
$25
Considering how common most of the Daly Wilson LPs are it’s always a joy to find their rare debut on Festival. Australian big band funk with a psychedelic edge. Essential Australian record. So many classic tracks; Limp Dropper, Dirty Feet, Today etc.. No cover for this cheaper copy. Looks a bit rough with scuffs although plays fine with light noise. Strong VG.
Jim Minchin / Move To Mix
Label. Move
Disc. VG+
Cover. VG+
$50
Rare religious Jazz from Melbourne. Jim Minchin was a jazzy priest who cut two records for the Move label in the late 60s. While his second LP takes a pop-folk direction this hard to find debut is great Xian workshop jazz. Includes the awesome, A Hymne to God Thy Father. This never turns up!
John Sangster & Judy Bailey / Jazz Australia

$200
Fantastic compilation of Australian jazz from the mid 60s. Mainly for the brilliant 12 minute piece ‘Conjur Man’ by the John Sangster Octet. A phenomenal recording displaying Sangster’s interest in outsider jazz. Possibly recorded after his experiences with Sun Ra in NY. It also features the great Don Burrows track ‘Lonely Girl’, which was the precursor to the 2000 Weeks OST. In addition it includes some rare Judy Bailey and Bernie McGann compositions. For me this is the best Australian jazz record. A great showcase of what was happening in Australian jazz during the 60s. I reckon it even beats Eastern Horizons and other big Australian jazz LPs. Rare!

Rare Australian press of this important Lansdowne session. Classic UK jazz. This copy is a bit rough but we thought someone might like a cheaper copy. Some ring wear and foxing to the 60s flipback cover. Two inch split at bottom opening. The disc plays well with only minimal noise but does have a fair amount of hairlines. No deep scratches. Plays close to VG+ for the majority. Essential jazz!!
