Il Gruppo D’Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza / Niente

Founded in Rome in 1964, ‘Il Gruppo D’Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza’ was a collective of noted and noteworthy composers who challenged the very structure and performance of music itself. Today the most renowned of its members would be film-scoring genius Ennio Morricone (indeed “Il Gruppo…” performed on many celebrated Morricone scores of the 1960s and 1970s) but each contributor has an intriguing history in Italian music. The collective improvised live (according to strict exercises) and in the studio (recording for RCA, Deutsche Grammaphon, General Music and others). Come 1970 “Il Gruppo…’ (as ‘The Group’) recorded “The Feed-back” (for RCA Italy), an insane amalgam of avant-improvisation and motorik krautrock beats that, understandably, has become one of the most collectable LPs ever issued. In 1971 ‘Il Gruppo’ returned to the studio to record a sequel. This is that record. For reasons unknown “Niente” was never originally issued but one listen will convince that not only is it the sequel to one of the most sought after LPs of all time, but it is also by far its superior. Brain melting jams collide with unhinged intensity in a hothouse of Italian avant-improv. You have been warned.
Egisto Macchi / I Futuribili
[SIR007LP] Replica LP. AVAILABLE JANUARY. PRE ORDERS TAKEN NOW.
Price – $30 AUD plus shipping.
Egisto Macchi (1928-1992) has long existed in the shadow of his friend and famous collaborator Ennio Morricone. As Morricone melded pop idioms and western scores, Macchi too melded classicism, the avant garde and early electronic music. Aside from his frequent collaborations with Morricone (in the astounding ‘Il Gruppo Di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza’) Macchi was a busy film (LSD Inferno, Bandidos, The Assassination Of Trotsky) and TV (E.S.P, many commercials with Mario Bava) composer in late 1960s and 1970s Italy and France. Macchi also cut a number of highly desirable library LPs for the Gemelli, Sermi and other Italian labels in the 1970s. ‘I Futuribili’
is one of the greatest and most sought after of those LPs, a stunning and powerful hybrid of haunting orchestral arrangements, jarring avant tones and dense electronic atmospheres. Presented as an exact replica of the incredibly rare 1972 Gemelli LP, remastered from the original master tapes and complete with liner notes as an insert. Some consider Egisto Macchi to be an undiscovered genius…and here is the evidence.
Orchestra Peter Thomas / Orion 2000

Price – $30 AUD plus shipping.
Interplanetary Freak Funk. The highpoint of a career that boasts the legendary Space Patrol (Raumpatrouille) and Chariots Of The Gods soundtracks, Peter Thomas’ Orion 2000 is a phenomenal session that was only ever pressed in miniscule amounts as a German library LP (in 1975) and has never been available commercially ever before. Drums pound, guitars buzz, horns flail and star-maidens wail…berserk electronic and musique-concrete effects collide with manic energy in a cornucopia of astro big-band delirium. There is nothing of this world (or any other) that sounds like the Orchestra Peter Thomas. Remastered from the original master tapes and presented with exclusive liner notes, the original artwork, and rare photos.
Yma Sumac / Miracles
[SIR004LP] Replica LP. AVAILABLE NOW.
Price – $30 AUD plus shipping.
Rumoured to be an Incan princess (or a housewife from Brooklyn) there is one thing about Yma Sumac of which there is no doubt: her voice – an astounding instrument, both emotive and playful that captured the imagination of millions during the height of her 1950s “Voice of the Xtabay” exotica-fame. After years of global adulation, tours behind the iron curtain and then a number of personal crises, Yma was ready to return to the spotlight in 1972. Flanked by her original collaborator, the King of Exotica, Les Baxter, this was to be no tired rerun of former glories but instead a blistering psyche-rock-exploitation opus! Yma growls and swoops her way over solid grooves, swirling keys and fuzz guitars. Withdrawn immediately after release in a blizzard of litigation and acrimony, this rare and lysergic masterpiece is now fully restored and remastered from the original master tapes for its first ever official reissue. Presented with two fantastic (and previously unheard) extra tracks.
Rob Thomsett / Yaraandoo
[SIR003LP] Replica LP. AVAILABLE NOW.
Price – $30 AUD plus shipping.
From deep within the Australian Outback comes Yaraandoo, the 40,000 year-old sound of antediluvian Aboriginal folklore channelled through Mellotron, hypnotic washes of Moog oscillations, Bamboo flutes and tape delay. Welcome to the unearthed, unheard of and undefinable genre of Australian Dreamtime Psych…. Re-presented for the first time, The Roundtable announce a much anticipated reissue of this mythical Australian Lo-fi concept recording composed by Jazz guitarist Rob Thomsett. Working in a similar impressionistic mode as other Australian originals Sven Libaek and John Sangster, Thomsett sets to music the Aboriginal Dreamtime myth of Yaraandoo, The legend of the dawn of creation. Self recorded on a two track in 1974 then privately pressed and distributed amongst friends, Yaraandoo is without a doubt the most desired and speculated Australian progressive recording in existence. With only 100 handmade LP copies originally pressed, copies of this phenomenal LP rarely surface. Yaraandoo is a true lost timepiece from the Australian underground.
John Sangster / Once Around The Sun
[SIR002LP] Previously unreleased LP. AVAILABLE NOW.
Price – $30 AUD plus shipping.
For the second release in a series of lost Australian recordings, The Roundtable offers another soundtrack that was shelved soon after it was recorded. Composed by jazz eccentric John Sangster, Once Around The Sun was the score written to feature on the unreleased 1970 film documenting the Australian Ourimbah Festival: Pilgrimage of Pop. Unheard for the last forty years, the music from this film sees Sangster blend themes of Space mythology and 60s counterculture to produce THE most expansive, heaviest and experimental piece of music ever recorded in Australia. Reminiscent in tone Sun Ra’s Space is the Place and Jean Claude Vannier’s L’enfant Assassin des Mouches, Once around the Sun is one of the few examples of Australian orchestrated Psychedelic Jazz to be made. Cosmic mood music laced with heavy acid psych and pastoral folk sit alongside Eastern Mysticism and exotic Avant Garde jazz. While the musicians responsible have not been extensively documented it is reported that alongside Sangster on Percussion and the Sydney Philharmonic, the music was played by members of the Don Burrows Quartet, SCRA, and an early incarnation of The Galapagos Duck band. Truly a unique Australian timepiece, this is the heaviest slab of Australian film music ever committed to tape. Together with recordings such as the Marinetti OST, Once Around The Sun is an amazing document of the visionary and experimental mind of Australia’s jazz outsider, John Sangster.
John Sangster / Marinetti
[SIR001CD] Previously unreleased CD. AVAILABLE NOW.
Price – $20 AUD plus shipping.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary screening of the UBU film Marinetti, the music by John Sangster is finally seeing a soundtrack release. Drawing heavily from French Musique Concrete as well as the Avant Garde of Sun Ra and reminiscent of Worlds Within Worlds-era Basil Kirchin, Sangster creates a whirling mass of psychedelic mayhem. Marinetti is an amazing and rare insight into the Sydney underground of the late 60s. Twisted jazz and field recording fused with primitive sampling & film dialogue; all echo the motley sound of the acid-stained Down Underground. Featuring members of Tully.
